THE PAST, PRESENT AND THE FUTURE
The Pemulwuy Project is the redevelopment of the land known as “the Block” owned by the AHC. Pemulwuy includes a mixed-use site that includes affordable housing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, a gymnasium, commercial and retail space, a gallery, student accommodation, and a childcare centre.
Attention to context inspired the design principles of art, exploration and layering, that incorporate elements from both the past and present, to establish a response to the site that reflects the complex layers of Redfern’s history. These include the geological and natural landscape, the Indigenous heritage, and the current context of the neighbourhood. Brought to life, each floor features a bold, distinctive colour palette that resonates throughout the building, creating a wholistic yet unique identity.
