This proposal is to create a commercial and civic centre for the suburb of Thornton, north of Penrith Train Station.

This proposal was inspired by the duality of the natural landscape of the Blue Mountains and the urban development of the Sydney Basin. The building forms are ostensibly ‘architecture as landscape’, evocative of the natural surroundings.

The concept diagram is an undulating ribbon of residential accommodation that wraps around a sloping landscaped terrain ‘the Green Meadow’. This ribbon undulates in height, culminating in a landmark 40-storey tower at the south-eastern corner of the site. This terrain sits above a podium incorporating stacked parking sleeved with retail, commercial and residential accommodation.

The proposal creates a series of public spaces with a new square in front of the Station connecting to a retail street that bifurcates the podium, creating a link to the rail commuter parking to the west of the site.
